Basketball Recap: Midway Drops Season-High Score on Jellico

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Midway). They secured an 83-79 W over the Jellico Blue Devils on Friday. While the Green Wave didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

When it comes to explaining why Jellico lost, don't look at Trey Vann. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Vann a new career-high in assists (five). Another player making a difference was Gavin Dabney, who posted 15 points and six rebounds.

Midway is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.6 points per game. As for Jellico, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-5.

Midway and Pickett County will round out the year against one another at at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Jellico, they will be taking part in a tournament against Powell at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Jellico knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Powell likes a good challenge.
