Basketball Recap: Fleming Island Starts Season with Victory Against Westside

Fleming Island took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They blew past the Westside Wolverines 59-19. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-10.

Gianna Crawford had an outrageously good game as she shot 71% from the field en route to 25 points and six boards. That's the most points she has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Amira Martin, who earned eight points and six rebounds.

Fleming Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fleming Island won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Middleburg at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Golden Eagles' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Westside, they will square off against St. Augustine at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
