Billings Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabe Jones led the charge by going 7-for-14 en route to 18 points and three steals. The contest was Jones' ninth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevin Sweet, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.
Billings Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Stillwater Christian on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 76-52 margin over Varsity Opponent.
Stillwater Christian's win came from a few key players Billings Christian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ryan Buzzard, who went 10-for-17 to rack up 24 points along with eight assists and six steals. He has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Elijah Linn, who shot 5-for-9 from deep and dropped a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Stillwater Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.2 points over those games. Billings Christian's victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Billings Christian has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 39.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Stillwater Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Billings Christian came up short against Stillwater Christian in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, falling 60-56. Can Billings Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
