For the first time this season, Cedar Park will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After each having a week off, they and the Chaparral Bobcats will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chaparral took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Cedar Park, who comes in off a win.
Two weeks ago, Cedar Park needed a bit of extra time to put away Huntsville. They came out on top against the Hornets by a score of 36-29. The score was all tied up 22-22 at the break, but the Timberwolves were the better team in the second half.
Cedar Park got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Trae Samuel Frost Hill out in front who rushed for 211 yards and two TDs while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Samuel Frost Hill was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 64 yards. Another signal caller making a difference was David Cooper, who threw for 188 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cedar Park was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 223 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 154 rushing yards in four consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 36 points the game before, Chaparral was a bit more limited in their game two weeks ago. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 13-12 to Lampasas. The loss put an end to the Bobcats' undefeated start to the season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Chaparral fell to 2-1. As for Cedar Park, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Cedar Park has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 186 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging 163 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Cedar Park against Chaparral when the teams last played back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 44-12 victory. Will the Timberwolves repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
