In what's become a running theme this season, the Maranatha Minutemen gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Whittier Christian 71-39 at home. The win was familiar territory for Maranatha who now have seven in a row.
Maranatha was led to victory by Harrison Harper and Trevor Cohen. Harper scored 12 points along with five rebounds, while Cohen scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Harper has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Dylan Khatchikian, who scored eight points along with five assists.
Whittier Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leland Carrido, who scored ten points along with three steals. Carrido is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Robert Sanchez was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Whittier Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Maranatha racked up 22 assists.
Maranatha is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Whittier Christian, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-14.
Maranatha will square off against Serra at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Whittier Christian will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Heritage Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th.
