The St. Pius X Sartans will square off against the Silver Fighting Colts at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
St. Pius X is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Kirtland Central as they made off with a 12-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sartans.
Lilee Zarate spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jordan Chavez was incredible, firing off four doubles, two stolen bases, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Sophia Trujillo was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Silver entered their tilt with Valencia on Friday with nine consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with ten. They put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 14-1 win.
The team relied heavily on Maria Ruelaz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Vanessa Lucero, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI.
Silver was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in 16 consecutive games.
Silver's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for St. Pius X, the victory got them back to even at 13-13.
St. Pius X suffered a grim 17-3 defeat to Silver when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Can the Sartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
