The Laguna Beach Breakers had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 64-62 win over Huntington Beach on Wednesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Laguna Beach got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jack Halvorson out in front who scored 22 points. Halvorson has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Mceachern, who scored 20 points.
Huntington Beach's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Oliver Nakra, who scored 25 points. Nakra continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Logan Barker was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Laguna Beach now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Huntington Beach, their defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 14-9.
Laguna Beach will take on Fountain Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Fountain Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matches. As for Huntington Beach, they will head out on the road to challenge Edison at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Edison presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Huntington Beach in California (Edison is ranked 39th, while Huntington Beach is ranked 267th).
