Edsel Ford is 0-9 against Roosevelt since April of 2021 but things could change on Monday. The Thunderbirds will head out to take on the Bears at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Edsel Ford barely beat Annapolis the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Thunderbirds put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 17-7 victory on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Thunderbirds in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won five in a row.
Meanwhile, Roosevelt got the win against Lincoln Park on Thursday by a conclusive 16-1. Considering the Bears have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Grace Papler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Shaylan Gourlay was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two triples, two stolen bases, and two runs. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last 11 matchups. Another player making a difference was Peyton Sabo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles.
Roosevelt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Roosevelt has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Edsel Ford, their record is now 2-12.
Edsel Ford might still be hurting after the 16-1 defeat they got from Roosevelt in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Thunderbirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
