Phalen Leadership Academy has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Traders Point Christian Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Phalen Leadership Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Traders Point Christian likes a good challenge.
Even though Irvington Preparatory Academy scored an imposing 58 points on Wednesday, Phalen Leadership Academy still came out on top. Phalen Leadership Academy took down Irvington Preparatory Academy 72-58.
Phalen Leadership Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Damario Atkins, who scored 18 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Atkins scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Callahan, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Traders Point Christian suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They had to suffer through a rough 58-17 loss at the hands of Greenwood Christian Academy. While losing is never fun, Traders Point Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 392nd, while Greenwood Christian Academy is ranked 95th).
Phalen Leadership Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.3 points per game. As for Traders Point Christian, they have fallen quite a ways from their 18-7 record last season and are now at 4-7.
