The Mount Everett Regional Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Drury Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mount Everett Regional is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
While Mount Everett Regional's victory against Smith Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Falcons 9-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Matt Lowe and Trevor Leonard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Lowe tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Leonard struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Lowe has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Lowe went 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base, while Leonard went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Lowe has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Jacob Kreis was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Sean Warren also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Drury put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Lenox Memorial get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The matchup marked the Blue Devils' most dominant win of the season.
Like Mount Everett Regional, Drury also got a great game from a two-way player: Connor Hinkell. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Hinkell was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Drury got a big performance out of JJ Prenguber, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Brayden Durant was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double.
Drury kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Drury pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.3 runs this season. As for Mount Everett Regional, their record is now 5-2.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mount Everett Regional hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Drury struggles in that department as they've averaged .415. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mount Everett Regional couldn't quite get it done against Drury in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 as they fell 5-2. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
