If the Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers were riding high off their 59-23 takedown of the Deer Trail Eagles on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cripple Creek-Victor was outmatched by Denver Academy at home and fell 77-47. Cripple Creek-Victor has not had much luck with Denver Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Defeat or not, Cripple Creek-Victor got some senior leadership from Myles Durham who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and Tony Woods who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and six blocks. The contest was Durham's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Lohmeier, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Nolan Monasch had a dynamite game for Denver Academy, dropping a triple-double on 37 points, 11 rebounds, and ten steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Monasch has scored at least 25% of Denver Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Riley Allen, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Cripple Creek-Victor now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Denver Academy, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cripple Creek-Victor will face off against Cotopaxi at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cotopaxi focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday. As for Denver Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Twin Peaks Charter Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
