Eastern Montgomery is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Highland is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Mustangs will welcome the Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Eastern Montgomery is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Fleming with a sharp 23-2 victory on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Colonels: they've now won six in a row.
Cam Sutphin and Coltin Conner made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Sutphin struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. Meanwhile, Conner pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those six strikeouts gave Sutphin a new career-high. At the plate, Sutphin scored two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Conner went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That home run was Conner's first of the season.
In other batting news, Eastern Montgomery got a massive performance out of Maze Cox, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Cox hit this season. Another player making a difference was Caleb Jones, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Eastern Montgomery was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Highland got the win against Richwood on Friday by a conclusive 21-4. The matchup marked the Rams' most dominant victory of the season.
Zach Armstrong was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Carpenter, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4.
Eastern Montgomery's win bumped their record up to 7-1-1. As for Highland, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Eastern Montgomery hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eastern Montgomery skirted past Highland 13-12 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
