Hannibal is a perfect 5-0 against Macon since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Pirates will host the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Hannibal proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 14) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Mexico. The victory continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.
Cooper Scott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits.
On the hitting side, Hannibal's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Christian Neisen, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Macon narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Clark County 5-4.
Macon also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Preston Burns gave up four earned runs on three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ryder Lewis, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Kennon Isaacson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
Macon's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.75 runs across that stretch. As for Hannibal, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
Hannibal was able to grind out a solid win over Macon in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, winning 4-1. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
