Softball Recap: Academy of Notre Dame Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Academy of Notre Dame entered their tilt with Notre Dame Cristo Rey on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Panthers 19-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 19-0 on April 10th.

Carina Clark made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6.2 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacqui Martineau, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Dahlia Lugo was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

Academy of Notre Dame kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matches.

Academy of Notre Dame's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Notre Dame Cristo Rey, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Academy of Notre Dame will host Mystic Valley Regional at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Notre Dame Cristo Rey, they will be playing at home against Minuteman Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
