Basketball Recap: Mun Sumlut's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Thunderbird Adventist Academy over Arrowhead Christian Academy

Thunderbird Adventist Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a hard 48-30 fall against the Arrowhead Christian Academy Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Thunderbird Adventist Academy of the 42-14 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Thunderbird Adventist Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mun Sumlut, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. Sumlut is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Katy Bayer, who posted 15 points.

Even though they lost, Thunderbird Adventist Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Arrowhead Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Leah Rubio, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 11 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Beilke, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Thunderbird Adventist Academy's record is now 0-4. As for Arrowhead Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Thunderbird Adventist Academy will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Arrowhead Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 14, 2025. As for Arrowhead Christian Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 40-34 win against BASIS - Prescott on the 17th.
