Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hazelwood East Spartans  a   16-0 shutout  on Wednesday. The Lions' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.
 Roninwer Martinez looked comfortable as he  struck out nine batters over  3.2 innings while giving up   no  earned runs or  hits. Gateway Legacy Christian Academy is 2-1 when  Martinez allows three or  fewer  hits, but 6-12 otherwise.
 At the plate,  Juan Telles was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three  stolen bases, two  runs,  and one  triple. Those  three  stolen bases gave  him a new career-high.  Francisco Guayapero was another key player,  going 2-for-4 with four  RBI, two  runs,  and two  doubles.
Gateway Legacy Christian Academy's victory  ended  a  four-game drought on the road  and  puts them at 8-13. As for Hazelwood East, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5-1.
 Coming up, Gateway Legacy Christian Academy will take on Christian Brothers at 4:30  p.m.  on Thursday. As for Hazelwood East, they will face off against University City at 4:15  p.m.  on Friday.
