Basketball Recap: Holy Cross Comes Up Short

Holy Cross lost against Christ the King back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Holy Cross Knights received a blow as they fell 59-44 to the Christ the King Royals. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while the Royals are ranked second).

Despite the loss, Holy Cross still got an impressive performance from Jeeanna Pierantoni, who posted 20 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Pierantoni is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Another player making a difference was Mona Okorie, who earned four points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.

Holy Cross has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which is still a better percentage than their 5-16 record this season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to assists: they averaged an imposing 8.43 assists in those games compared to only 8.43 in the others. As for Christ the King, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-6.

Holy Cross will head out to challenge Monsignor Scanlan at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Monsignor Scanlan knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Holy Cross likes a good challenge. Christ the King has already played their next contest (against Bishop Loughlin), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
