Pearl scored a stunning upset when it knocked off West Jones, 13-10. At the time, the Mustangs were ranked 18th in the state, while the Pirates were 54th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to West Jones, who took down 18th ranked West Jones, 13-10. Michael Roberson threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns and ran for seven yards in the win.
Justin Blue was the most productive running back in 5A Region 3 this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 142 yards as Brookhaven topped Scott Pierson's team. Teammate Treviaunte McDaniel added to the ground attack by rushing for 45 yards.
Harvey was the best wideout in the league this week as John Perry's team beat the Mustangs. Harvey tallied five receptions for 135 yards. Demorrious Brown helped Pearl's passing attack out by catching four balls for 84 yards.
The Pirates' Roberson and Harvey have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Roberson has thrown for 1192 yards this season, while Harvey has 27 catches for 618 yards. West Jones' Trey Keyes leads the league in rushing yards with 915.
The Mustangs' Keyes is a mere 85 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
A big matchup in 5A Region 3 this week will be when West Jones takes on the Tigers. The Mustangs are in third place, while McComb is in first place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when West Jones takes on Malcolm Jones' team. The Mustangs have allowed 97 points this season, while the Tigers have given up 139. West Jones allowed 13 points last week as it lost to Pearl.
The Panthers were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, Brookhaven triumphed over Stone 31-0.
