Wellington has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Timnath Cubs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
On Friday, Wellington suffered a tough 61-37 loss at the hands of the Beetdiggers.
Meanwhile, Timnath came up short against the Indians on Tuesday and fell 49-39. While losing is never fun, Timnath can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while the Indians are ranked 44th).
Despite the defeat, Timnath saw an underclassman step up: Max Roselle dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Luke Jacobson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Wellington's loss was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-16. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.8 points per game. As for Timnath, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-10.
Wellington was dealt a bruising 56-16 defeat at the hands of the Cubs in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Wellington was down 29-7.
