Basketball Game Preview: Hanahan Hawks vs. North Charleston Cougars

Hanahan has gone 6-1 against North Charleston recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Hanahan Hawks will welcome the North Charleston Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Hanahan will be strutting in after a victory while North Charleston will be coming in after a defeat.

Hanahan is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Georgetown: they outscored them in every quarter. Hanahan enjoyed a cozy 42-27 win over Georgetown on Tuesday. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hanahan can attribute much of their success to Camdyn Lawson, who posted ten points and five steals, and Bri Johnsen, who put up nine points and seven steals. Johnsen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 29 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleigh Taylor, who had five points.

Meanwhile, North Charleston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 21st straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by Military Magnet Academy and fell 102-9. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-6.

Hanahan pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.3 points per game. As for North Charleston, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.

Everything came up roses for Hanahan against North Charleston in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 61-26 win. Will Hanahan repeat their success, or does North Charleston have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
