The result came thanks to Sophia Anderson's shutout, as she gave up just four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Oswego East's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Owles, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Another was Danielle Stone, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Downers Grove South entered their tilt with Berwyn/Cicero Morton on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past Berwyn/Cicero Morton 10-0. The result was nothing new for Downers Grove South, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Danielle Carson was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Jordan Balsavich was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Ella Kardatzke was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Downers Grove South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berwyn/Cicero Morton only posted a batting average of .053.
Oswego East's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-9. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Downers Grove South, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oswego East hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Downers Grove South struggles in that department as they've averaged .410. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Oswego East couldn't quite get it done against Downers Grove South in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 as they fell 8-5. Will the Wolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
