Bisbee is 0-10 against Willcox since April of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Pumas will look to defend their home field against the Cowboys at 4:00 p.m.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Bisbee and Tombstone meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Pumas came up short against the Yellow Jackets, falling 15-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Pumas have suffered since March 11th.
Meanwhile, Willcox entered their tilt with Desert Christian on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cowboys, who have now won 13 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Alyssa Gonzalez made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Karlie St Clair was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Nataly Thompson, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Willcox was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .656. They are 16-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Willcox pushed their record up to 17-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bisbee, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.
Bisbee might still be hurting after the 15-7 defeat they got from Willcox in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Pumas have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
