For the second straight game, Westfield will face off against Zionsville. The Shamrocks will host the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Westfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Westfield is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Zionsville, who was ranked 18th at the time (Westfield was ranked 12th). The Shamrocks came up short against the Eagles on Thursday, falling 11-5. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Shamrocks, who until this contest were averaging 3.89 runs allowed.
For Zionsville's part, Brady Shaw tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Shaw has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Riley Agbonhese was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Jackson Tielker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Zionsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westfield only managed six hits.
Zionsville has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Westfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-7 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Westfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Zionsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
