The Overton Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Amherst on the road and fell 66-35. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Overton has scored all season.
Overton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dawsen Mccarter, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and three steals. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Jeffries, who scored six points.
Even though they lost, Overton were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Tayje Hadwiger was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds for Amherst. The matchup was Hadwiger's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Austin Adelung was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Overton's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Amherst, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with that win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Overton will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Maxwell at 5:00 p.m. on January 6th. Maxwell will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Overton is ranked 117th). As for Amherst, they will head out on the road to face off against Alma at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Alma will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
