Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Corry Beavers, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were dealt a 45-13 defeat at the hands of Meadville on Saturday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Corry in their matchups with Meadville: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Beavers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rylan Smith, who picked up 92 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meadville was led to victory by Jordan Lawrence and Bradyn Miller. Lawrence rushed for 187 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.8 yards per carry, while Miller rushed for 165 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries. Lawrence hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Corry to a paltry 210 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Meadville's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Corry's QB won't forget Alex Hauf anytime soon given Hauf sacked him twice.
Corry's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Meadville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Corry does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Meadville will look to defend their home field on Saturday against USO [University Prep/Sci-Tech/Obama Academy] at 2:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Pennsylvania (USO [University Prep/Sci-Tech/Obama Academy] is ranked 186th, while Meadville is ranked 183rd).
