Southwick Regional is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight games on Thursday. They came up short against Wahconah Regional, falling 12-3.
Southwick Regional saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andriy Novak, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Novak also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Another was Parker Stopa, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Westfield Technical Academy got the win against Smith Vo-Tech on Friday by a conclusive 16-5. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 11 runs or more this season.
Josh Elmer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Elmer was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach Morgado, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI and two runs. Logan Csekovsky was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Westfield Technical Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.
Westfield Technical Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Southwick Regional, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
