While it was all tied up 26-26 at halftime, the Brattleboro Bears were not quite the Mount Anthony Patriots's equal in the second half on Friday. Brattleboro fell 63-54 to the Patriots. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Brattleboro of the 65-52 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Brattleboro lost, one person who can't be blamed is Johnathon Haskins. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Keagan Systo, who scored ten points.
Brattleboro's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Mount Anthony, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brattleboro will face off against the Terriers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Vermont (Bellows Falls is ranked 39th, while the Bears are ranked 33rd). Mount Anthony will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th. Rutland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully the Patriots like a good challenge.
