Calvary Christian is a perfect 6-0 against Lakewood since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Warriors will face off against the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
If Calvary Christian beats Lakewood with three runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Warriors came out on top in a nail-biter against Tampa Catholic on Thursday, sneaking past 3-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.
Calvary Christian got a great performance from Caden Schlotterbeck as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 5.1 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Calvary Christian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabriel Campos, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Lakewood had no trouble coming through when it counted. They had just enough and edged out Anclote 5-4. The win was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won three matches in a row.
Gavin Garisson tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Lakewood is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-12 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jonathan Jacomino, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. David Bell was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Lakewood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Lakewood's victory bumped their record up to 7-13. As for Calvary Christian, their win bumped their record up to 22-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Calvary Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lakewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Calvary Christian's way against Lakewood in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Calvary Christian made off with a 7-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
