Sulligent had lost four straight, but after bumping their record up to 9-14 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They won by a run and slipped past the Belgreen Bulldogs 3-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Addison Heath spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Kallie Taylor was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Ella George also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Sulligent hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Belgreen struck out nine times.
As for Belgreen, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-10-1 record this season. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
On Belgreen's side, they also let their pitcher toss all 7.2 innings and she was also dialed-in: Zoey Blaxton gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. Blaxton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bryn Scott was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Jemma Moore was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sulligent will welcome South Lamar at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Belgreen, they will host Waterloo at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
