The Franklinton Rams can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 66-57 win over Southern Nash. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
It was another big night for Markelle Massenburg, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Darius Slankard was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Southern Nash saw an underclassman step up: James Viclk scored 11 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that Viclk pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was George Richardson, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Southern Nash smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Franklinton only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Franklinton's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10. As for Southern Nash, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Franklinton will challenge Roanoke Rapids at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Roanoke Rapids' favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Franklinton has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Southern Nash's road trip will continue as they head out to face Nash Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Nash Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
