Baseball Recap: E.E. Smith Comes Up Short

E.E. Smith was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 20-4 to the Pine Forest Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-2 last Tuesday.

E.E. Smith saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Williams, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave Williams a new career-high. Kenny McLaughlin also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Even though they lost, E.E. Smith always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

E.E. Smith's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Pine Forest, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. E.E. Smith will face off against Harnett Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. E.E. Smith's pitchers better be ready for this one: Harnett Central has averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Pine Forest, they will take on Orange at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Orange's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Pine Forest's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
