Basketball Recap: Southeast Halifax Comes Up Short

Southeast Halifax was the 56-55 winner over Northampton County when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Southeast Halifax Trojans fell 68-61 to the Northampton County Jaguars on Tuesday. The Trojans' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

Despite the loss, Southeast Halifax saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Clinton Mills Jr. went 9 for 12 on his way to 21 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Mills Jr. is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of O'Tavion Arrington, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 16 points.

Even though they lost, Southeast Halifax was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northampton County only racked up 11 assists.

Northampton County had a senior duo take command as Torrey Harris went 7 of 13 from beyond the arc on his way to 32 points and three steals and Jiyoun Williams dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Harris has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rashaud Wilder, who posted five points and five boards.

Southeast Halifax's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Northampton County, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Southeast Halifax will face off against Roanoke Rapids at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Southeast Halifax is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.5 points per game this season. As for Northampton County, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against North Edgecombe at 7:30 p.m. Northampton County also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 61.7 points per game.
