Agua Dulce extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 4-2. They really took it to the Incarnate Word Academy Angels for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-6 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Longhorns' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1024th, while the Angels are ranked 55th).
Agua Dulce got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aiden Martinez out in front who rushed for 228 yards and three scores while picking up 12.7 yards per carry. Martinez really tore up the turf during one magnificent 77-yard run. Lane Ranly was another key signal caller, throwing for 242 yards and three TDs.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Agua Dulce was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 293 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Incarnate Word Academy only rushed for 163.
As for Incarnate Word Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2. They were red-hot offensively heading into the matchup (they scored no less than 31 points in the five contests prior), but Agua Dulce's defense proved too tough.
Despite the loss, Incarnate Word Academy still got an impressive performance from Noah Lopez, who rushed for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 202 yards and three TDs. Connor Costley was in the mix too, providing the Angels with two scores.
Looking ahead, Agua Dulce will venture away from home to take on Marine Military Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Longhorns will be up against the Leathernecks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.4 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Incarnate Word Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Annapolis Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
