If the Gouverneur Wildcats were riding high off their 93-44 takedown of the Salmon River Shamrocks on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Gouverneur was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 60-59 to Massena. Gouverneur has struggled against Massena recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Raine Rumble and Jared Donaldson certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Rumble scored 17 points, while Donaldson scored 21 points. Rumble is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ashton Currier, who scored six points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Massena to victory, but perhaps none more so than Taylor Mitchell, who scored 24 points along with three steals. Colin Patterson was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Gouverneur's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Massena, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.
Gouverneur will be playing at home against Norwood-Norfolk at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gouverneur is facing Norwood-Norfolk at the right time seeing as Norwood-Norfolk is stuck on a 11-game losing streak. As for Massena, they will head out on the road to take on South Jefferson at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
