The Southmont Mounties are taking a road trip to challenge the North Putnam Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Southmont will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Southmont took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Clinton Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mounties came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs on Friday, sneaking past 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mounties have posted since April 18th.

Ella Barry made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Barry wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kenzie Clate, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another was Anna Stokes, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, North Putnam got themselves on the board against Cloverdale on Saturday, but Cloverdale never followed suit. They walked away with a 3-0 win over the Clovers. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Clovers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Mack Mason was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Hailee Daigle also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
North Putnam's record is now 9-5. As for Southmont, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-6 record.
North Putnam's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Southmont has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. It's a different story for North Putnam, though, as they've only averaged .349. Will they be able to contain Southmont's hitters?
Everything went Southmont's way against North Putnam in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Southmont made off with a 16-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mounties since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
