Two dominant guards in Rashid Faruq and Jeremiah Shelton are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Eastern Ramblers will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against the Banneker Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (Eastern is ranked 17th, while Banneker is ranked 15th).
Eastern lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on January 8th was a bit more commanding. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 67-41 walloping at the hands of Dunbar. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Eastern has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Banneker was able to grind out a solid victory over School Without Walls on Monday, taking the game 60-48.
Shelton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Doran Clausell, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Eastern now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Banneker, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.
Eastern was able to grind out a solid victory over Banneker when the teams last played back in January of 2023, winning 64-52. The rematch might be a little tougher for Eastern since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
