If the Kit Carson Wildcats were feeling good off their 41-21 takedown of the Kiowa Indians last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Kit Carson was beaten by Wiley 64-34 on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Kit Carson in their matchups with Wiley: they've now lost four in a row.
Kit Carson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brennan Framel, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds. Framel continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Keaton Marriott, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Kit Carson struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Wiley pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Leading Wiley to victory were Bo Arnold and Rhett McDonald. Arnold scored 18 points along with seven rebounds, while McDonald scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals. McDonald continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Joshua Barraza was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Kit Carson has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Wiley, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Kit Carson won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hi-Plains at 4:00 p.m. on January 13th. Hi-Plains is on a three-game streak of home losses, Kit Carson a five-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. Wiley will take on Walsh at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Walsh aren't just struggling at home either: they haven't won a game anywhere since December 15, 2023.
