Even though the Monroeville Eagles have not done well against the St. Paul Flyers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Monroeville rang in the new year with a 46-33 win over St. Paul. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Monroeville has managed all season.
Monroeville can attribute much of their success to Ava Krueger, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Grace Bohn, who scored 13 points.
Monroeville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for St. Paul, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.
Monroeville will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Edison at 6:45 p.m. Hopefully Edison focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. St. Paul will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against New London at 6:00 p.m. on January 8th. The timing is sure in New London's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while St. Paul has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.
