The Coronado Cougars will head out to challenge the Shadow Ridge Mustangs at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coronado is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Coronado is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over Bishop Gorman. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Gaels: they've now won three in a row.
Aubrie Sisler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits.

At the plate, Bailey Goldberg was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Summer Gilliam, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coronado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Shadow Ridge faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Mustangs came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 6-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Loa Duarte made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Covington, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Devaeh Crawford was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Coronado's record is now 13-11. As for Shadow Ridge, their record now sits at 19-7.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Coronado hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .372. However, it's not like Shadow Ridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .397. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coronado came up short against Shadow Ridge in their previous meeting back in April, falling 8-4. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
