Softball Recap: Marist Snags Tenth Victory in Last 11 Games

Marist was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against North Eugene on Thursday. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Highlanders. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by six runs or more this season.

Arabella Martinez made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Lera Basom was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bridget Stephenson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Marist was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April.

Marist is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for North Eugene, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-11.

Marist does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for North Eugene, they will head out on the road to face off against Eagle Point at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Highlanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
