The McCormick Chiefs couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a hard 53-36 fall against Ninety Six on Tuesday. McCormick lost against Ninety Six in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 37-31 score last time.
Ninety Six can attribute much of their success to Janiyah Squire, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Samya McBride, who scored 4 points along with 18 rebounds.
McCormick's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Ninety Six, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McCormick will challenge Ninety Six at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ninety Six, they will head out on the road to face off against Cambridge Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
