Baseball Recap: Cyprus Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

Cyprus won the last time they faced Granger and things went their way on Friday too. Cyprus put the hurt on Granger with a sharp 13-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Dj Oveson made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cyprus got a massive performance out of Rene Hidalgo, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Brody Densley was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Cyprus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .541 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Cyprus has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. Granger dropped their record down to 0-9 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cyprus will square off against Murray at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Murray will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Cyprus surely won't give up without a fight. As for Granger, they will face off against Kearns at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Granger is facing Kearns at the right time seeing as Kearns is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
