Chicopee Comp and Northampton are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Colts will host the Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Northampton will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Chicopee Comp extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday. The Colts put the hurt on Southwick Regional with a sharp 19-4 victory. That's two games straight that the Colts have won by exactly 15 runs.
Ashlyn Warwick made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Warwick was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Chicopee Comp got a massive performance out of Arianna Bird, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Olivia Cruz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Chicopee Comp was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .371 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Northampton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over Pope Francis Prep on Monday.
Greta Lepore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Avery Hicks was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Alejandro, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Northampton's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Chicopee Comp, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Chicopee Comp has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Northampton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Chicopee Comp got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 against Northampton by a conclusive 15-2 score. Do the Colts have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
