On Friday, The Lake Mary Prep Griffins faced the Merritt Island Christian Cougars in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Lake Mary Prep was the clear victor by a 52-30 margin over Merritt Island Christian. The victory was familiar territory for Lake Mary Prep who now have four in a row.
Wade Brashears continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 252 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 15.8 yards per carry. Brashears' longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Carson Cruse and his 99 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Lake Mary Prep's win.
Despite the loss, Merritt Island Christian still got an impressive performance from Genesis Grimstead, who rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Another player making a difference was Bode Handwork, who threw for 233 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt.
Lake Mary Prep's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Merritt Island Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.
Lake Mary Prep will be playing in front of their home fans against Real Life Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Real Life Christian Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Merritt Island Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
