The Severance Silver Knights will venture away from home to face off against the Thompson Valley Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Severance is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Severance and Roosevelt have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Silver Knights fell just short of the Roughriders by a score of 10-9. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Silver Knights, who until this contest were averaging four runs allowed.
Severance saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Crank, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. Bryce King was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Thompson Valley). Everything went their way against Northridge on Monday as they made off with a 19-9 victory. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now won six in a row.
Thompson Valley got a massive performance out of Donovan Closz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Closz is becoming a predictor of the Eagles' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-7 when he doesn't). Finn McAlpin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Thompson Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2025.
The victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 3-8. As for Severance, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5.
Severance skirted past Thompson Valley 12-11 in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Silver Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
