The River Pilots will venture away from home to take on the Shadyside Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are still undefeated (River has four wins , while Shadyside has three).
River barely beat Magnolia the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pilots were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Blue Eagles on Saturday. That six-run margin sets a new team best for the Pilots this season.
Ava Wohnhas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Carlee Winkler was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Lee, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Shadyside got the win against St. Clairsville on Saturday by a conclusive 14-4.
Like River, Shadyside also got a great game from a two-way player: Cam Kolvek. She pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Kolvek was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and four runs.
In other batting news, Shadyside let Kamryn Parker and Kara Zeroski run wild. Parker went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Zeroski went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Emma Gorrell, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Shadyside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Clairsville only posted a batting average of .346.
River's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Shadyside, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
Shadyside's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. River has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 15.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Shadyside, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 strikeouts. Will River keep running through batters, or will the Tigers buck the trend?
