The South-Doyle Cherokees had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 26-14 victory over Seymour on Friday. The victory was just what South-Doyle needed coming off of a 48-7 loss in their prior matchup.
South-Doyle's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marquell Patterson, who gained 89 total yards and a touchdown. Rolondo Phillips also helped out with an impressive 81 receiving yards.
Carson Vines and Blake Johnson, Seymour certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Vines picked up 147 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Johnson threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns.
South-Doyle's win bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Seymour, their defeat was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South-Doyle is on the road again on Friday and play against Anderson County at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. Anderson County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South-Doyle in Tennessee (Anderson County is ranked 45th, while South-Doyle is ranked 222nd). As for Seymour, they will head out on the road to face off against Carter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
