Even though the Richlands Wildcats have not done well against the Croatan Cougars recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Richlands managed a 41-37 win over the Cougars. This was payback for Richlands, who suffered a 39-20 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Leading Richlands to victory were Tashi Allen and Mia Wells. Allen scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Wells scored 20 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wells has scored all season.
Croatan's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hannah Buchan, who scored seven points along with five assists and five rebounds. Buchan hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Landry Clifton, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Richlands' victory bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Croatan, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Richlands will take on the Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. White Oak is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. As for Croatan, they will stay at home for another game and welcome the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully West Carteret focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Tuesday.
