The Peoria Panthers waltzed into their matchup Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They wrapped up 2023 with a 53-39 win over Buena.
Peoria's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Michelle Kogbara, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Kogbara has scored at least 25% of Peoria's points. Anahli Trujillo was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds.
Peoria's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Buena, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Peoria will take on American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Buena will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sunnyside at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. Hopefully Sunnyside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
