Basketball Recap: Bear Creek Falls Despite Big Games from Caleb Branch and Max Beiber

If Bear Creek was feeling good fresh off their 63-39 takedown of Eastside Prep last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bear Creek Grizzlies took a 79-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brewster Bears on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (63), the Grizzlies still had to take the loss.

Bear Creek's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Max Beiber, who went 11 of 20 en route to 30 points and three steals, and Caleb Branch, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 20 points and three steals. Beiber is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 18 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Liu, who posted eight points and three steals.

Thomas Mccarthy continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Brewster, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 12 boards. Mccarthy continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Oscar Churape, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points.

Bear Creek's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-2. As for Brewster, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-6.

Bear Creek didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-60 victory against Wapato on the 28th. As for Brewster, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 70-40 loss against Riverside on the 28th.
